Passport photo requirements Canada; of course you need a passport photo to apply for a passport, the rules are somewhat stricter for adults than for children. Please be aware what kind of document you want to apply for. For the passport requirements are different than the temporary resident visa and workpermit. Down below you find more information about it.

Costs for a passport photo for Canada

We are able to create a Canadian passport or visa photo for as low as € 15,-. With it, you will receive 6 photos for the passport, visa, Temporary resident visa, as well as the work permit. These will be cut and neatly packaged in a small suitcase for you.

A photo for the Canadian citizenship certificate requires a digital version. This variant will be sent to your email address. 

In case you also need a digital variant of the photo alongside your prints, it will cost an additional €2,50. This variant will be sent to your email address. 

You can simply walk in without an appointment at our studio over on Hugo de Grootplein 17 in Amsterdam.  The passport photos will be made for you immediately.   

Though it is not necessary, an appointment can always be made so you can make sure that you can be helped at a specific time if you are currently unavailable. 

Requirements passport photos or some visa photos Canada:

Taken by a commercial photographer The photosize is 50 mm x 70 mm From chin to crown of the head should be between 31 mm (1 1/4 inch) and 36 mm (1 7/16 inch) The photo needs to be clear and sharp Be in colour or sometimes black and white Taken with a neutral facial expression (eyes open and clearly visible, mouth closed, no smile). Be evenly lit and have no shadows, glare or reflections Taken straight in front, with the face and shoulders centered and the center of the camera. Taken for a solid white or light colored background with a clear difference between your face and the background. Reflect the real image and have a natural skin tone Photo must be taken in the last 12 months Professionally printed on normal, high quality photo paper

The following attributes should be included on the back of a photo for the passport and the visa: The name and full address of the photo studio and the date the photo was taken. The photographer can use a stamp or write this information on it. Adhesive labels are unacceptable.

Temporary resident (student, workers, visitors) visa and Express Entry:

Taken by a commercial photographer. The photosize must be at least 35 mm x 45 mm Have an image size of at least 420 x 540 pixels from chin to crown of the headit should be between 31 mm (1 1/4 inch) and 36 mm (1 7/16 inch) Have a file format of JPEG or JPEG2000 Have a file size of approximately 240 kB and no more than 4 MB Be in colour (24 bits per pixel) in RGB colour space Have the size of 600 px per inch The photo needs to be clear and sharp Be in colour or black and white Taken with a neutral facial expression (eyes open and clearly visible, mouth closed, no smile) Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible and there is no glare in the glasses Sunglasses or photos with the red-eye effect are unacceptable Hats and headgear are not allowed unless worn daily for religious belief or medical reasons The entire face should be clearly visible. The head covering should not cast shadows on the face Your hair can hang down loosely if there are no shadows Be evenly lit and have no shadows, glare or reflections Taken straight in front, with the face and shoulders centered and the center of the camera Taken for a solid white or light colored background with a clear difference between your face and the background Reflect the real image and have a natural skin tone Must be taken in the last 12 months If requisted be professionally printed on normal, high quality photo paper

The following information is sometimes requested to be sent along: The name, address and date at which the photo was taken.

Canadian citizenship certificate:

Final frame size of the photo must be 50 x 70 mm Have been taken within the last 6 months Show a full front view of the head and tops of shoulders Show the face in the middle of the photo Display the size of the head, from chin to crown, between 31 and 36 mm taken by a commercial photographer Have an image size of at least 420 x 540 pixels Have a file format of JPEG or JPEG2000 Have a file size of approximately 240 kB and no more than 4 MB Be in colour (24 bits per pixel) in RGB colour space Black and white photos will not be accepted Photos that are either scanned in or taken with a smartphone will not be acccepted

The following information must also be send: The name, address and date at which the photo was taken. At it to the ‘Client information’ item, under “Optional Documents”. They accept the photographer’s receipt or a text file.

Permanent Resident Photo:

The photo size must be 50 x 70 mm Have been taken within the last 6 months Display the size of the head, from chin to crown, between 31 and 36 mm taken by a commercial photographer The photo may be in color or black and white Photographs must be original and not alterned in any way Photo must be clear, sharp and in focus Taken with a neutral facial espression Eyes open and clearly visible, mouth closed, no smiling Taken straight on, with face and shoulders centred Your head and shoulders are visible Taken in frond of a white background Photo must have natural skin tones

The following information written on the back of the photograph: On top your name and date of birth. And than the name and address of the photography studio plus date at which the photo was taken. A stemp is also good but stick-on lables are unacceptable.

Children:

Child pictures and baby pictures must comply with the same rules as indicated above. Photos should show the children’s head and shoulders well. Hands of the parent holding the child should not appear in the photo. Canada recognizes the difficulty of obtaining a neutral expression from a newborn and will provide some tolerance in this regard. There should be no shadows on the face or shoulders, around the ears or the background.
